📖 The Story of the Final
A 17-year-old Pelé announced himself to the world. Sweden took an early lead through Liedholm but Vavá scored twice to put Brazil ahead. In the second half, Pelé scored one of the tournament's great goals — a chest trap and volley — and added a fourth late on. Zagallo scored the third. Sweden pulled one back but Brazil were irresistible. Pelé was so overwhelmed at the final whistle that he wept — becoming one of football's most enduring images. Brazil wore their famous yellow shirts in this tournament for the first time (the kit was redesigned after the trauma of 1950).
