France's second World Cup triumph was comprehensive against a gutsy Croatia side who had played three extra-time matches to get there. An own goal by Mandžukić opened the scoring before Perišić equalised. Griezmann's controversial penalty and goals from Pogba and a 19-year-old Mbappé — the second teenager after Pelé to score in a final — put France comfortably ahead. Mandžukić pulled one back but France were worthy winners. Didier Deschamps became only the third man to win the World Cup as both player and manager.
