Ronaldo's redemption. Four years after collapsing before the 1998 final under mysterious circumstances, Ronaldo was at his devastating best — scoring both goals to give Brazil an emphatic 2–0 win. The first was a clinical finish after a through ball, the second a composed strike past Oliver Kahn. Brazil won their fifth World Cup with arguably the most gifted attacking trio in tournament history — Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Rivaldo. Germany goalkeeper Kahn, who had been exceptional throughout, made a rare error for the first goal. A tournament for underdogs produced a worthy winner.
