The very first World Cup Final. Argentina led 2–1 at half-time but Uruguay scored three times in the second half. The match was played in intense heat and atmosphere — Uruguay's Centenario stadium had only been completed four days earlier. A dispute about which country's ball to use was settled by using each team's ball for one half. Uruguay, two-time Olympic champions, became the inaugural world champions in front of their own fans.
