🇩🇪 West Germany are World Champions

The worst World Cup Final in history by most accounts — a cynical, violent, defensive mess. Argentina had two players sent off. The only goal was a controversial Andreas Brehme penalty in the 85th minute after Roberto Sensini fouled Rudi Völler. Pedro Monzón became the first player ever sent off in a World Cup Final. Maradona, Argentina's captain, wept on the pitch. West Germany deserved their triumph across the tournament but the final itself was a low point for the sport. It was one factor behind the rule changes in 1992 designed to encourage more attacking football.
