2026 Rule Changes

The biggest regulation reset in a decade. New engines, new cars, new teams — this is why the 2026 standings look nothing like 2025.

New Power Units

The 2026 Engine Revolution

The new hybrid engines produce a 50/50 split between the internal combustion engine and electrical power — roughly 500hp from each. This is a massive increase in electrical power. The engines also run on 100% sustainable fuel — a first in F1 history. This is part of F1's commitment to be net-zero carbon by 2030.

New Car Design

Smaller, Lighter, More Active

The 2026 cars are smaller and lighter than the previous generation. The new regulations introduced active aerodynamics — movable body parts that adjust automatically during a lap to reduce drag on straights and increase downforce in corners. This is why some teams adapted faster than others — Mercedes found the setup first.

Because the 2026 regulations are so new, every team effectively started from zero. No one could carry over their previous car knowledge. This is why Antonelli — in his debut season — is leading the championship.
